Artist Statement

Through painting, sculpture and collage, I try to elevate trauma, loss, grief and those strange dreams that leave you unsettled all day into images that evoke the sensation of healing. Because I’ve never healed from anything without a strong dose of humor, I include it in almost every piece of art I create. People’s faces, expressions, features, memory and health have been strongly featured in past work, but I have been expanding on those themes to include how we collectively are surviving the trauma of this time and place – Covid-19, climate change, fascism, racism, misinformation, political cruelty, generational wealth and poverty, and existentialism. My goal in creating these works is encourage conversations about how we feel – both on an individual and collective level – about the world we’ve created, so that we can come to a consensus about how to make existence tolerable for everyone.
